Free Tips for Networking Your Blog and Increasing Blog Visitor Traffic

As with all forms of social media, the great thing about blogs is anyone can start one! Blogs can be free to host and create. (I say "can be" because you can pay for fancier ones.) A blog is very lonely though unless it has visitors. A lonely blog means, not only is no one reading your posts, but also the things you blog about are going to come up way down on the search engines and that the links you create will have little weight if your blog is ranked way down on the search engines.

The key to having a blog be useful and successful is networking. You need to make sure that you get as many links as possible to your blog so that you will have a stream of visitors who read what you spend your time writing and so that your blog will rank higher in the search engines and have a higher page rank.

Here are some key tips to help you build your blog visitor traffic and rank.

1. Submit your blog to every directory you can find!

Here are some to blog directories start with:
Hip Mama's Place
The Mom Blogs
Top Mommy Blogs
Blog Rankings
Blog Hints
I suggest doing a search for "blog directories" and registering with at least the top 10-20.  The more the better.  The ones that are coming up higher in the search are likely to give you more "link juice".

2. Create a Blog Button and get it out there.

Create your own button or get one designed for you. Once again networking and getting onto people's blog rolls is key.

3. Join some Blogger social networks.

There are loads of ning networks were you can get your blog listed and make blogger buddies. You can also join CafeMom, Mom Bloggers Club, Blog Frog, Social Moms, Bloggy Moms and the Mom Blog Network.

4. Visit other blogs and follow them if you like them.

Then leave comments letting the blogger know you enjoy their articles and you are following them.  Mostly, they will return the favor and commenting with many sites leaves a backlink to you.  Be sure to notice cool widgets and other networking tools while you are there!

5.  Be sure that your blog has a social media sharing widget or button installed.

There are several free options, you can check out as one or there are lots of plugins.  This increases traffic by allowing others to share your links more easily.

6.  Create a Facebook Page for your Blog.

Creating a Facebook Page for your blog is a great way to let your friends know about your posts in an easy format for them to follow along.  The beauty of this is that when they interact with your posts their friends will find out about your blog as well.  It is a great way for visitors to keep up with your new material.  You may want to read these tips on creating your Facebook page for your blog.  Facebook is in my top 10 for traffic referrals to my blog.

7.  Create a Twitter Profile for your Blog.

Twitter is a great way to get a free but very valuable link to your blog from one of the hottest sites on the world wide web. It is a great source of traffic and has always been one of my top traffic generators. You may also wish to read Tips to Effectively Use Twitter To Promote Your Blog.

8.  Have a newsletter or subscribe by email option.

I resisted this for a long time thinking that would mean they wouldn't visit my blog to read it. I am sorry I waited so long. It is now one of my top sources of traffic! I use mail chimp for newsletters from this site and feed burner subscription for my Family Focus Blog emails.

This should give you a good starting place for networking your blog to get maximum results from your posts.  Happy blogging!
