It's difficult starting up a new business in today's climate, what with people and businesses alike spending less money on products and services we all need to look at additional methods of getting our brand out there to ensure success. Both Marketing and Advertising go hand in hand and ultimately will pave the way for the success of your small business. Businesses have evolved over the decades from businesses being local, to being national and international by utilizing the emerging technologies at their disposal. Businesses have transformed into the giant corporations we know and trust or simply faded away. Starting at the bottom of the ladder means you need to build a rapport with your potential customers handle the advertising and marketing campaigns, plan project and much more, don't forget you also have the day to day business to run at the same time.
Being successful in business does not mean that you have to be big and there are many ways in which you can adapt your business to suit the new trading conditions. With the growth in Internet usage we have seen so many businesses moving towards this new method of marketing away from traditional media. Social media has allowed businesses to promote their companies through paid for and free mediums directly to the customer and allowed both parties to interact with one another. Customers can follow businesses that they are interested in and businesses can advertise to these customers and a wide demographic of potential customers in an affordable way. The targeted profiling of social networking sites means sites like Facebook- where we provide information such as age, marital status, education level, political views and sex is perfect for advertisers to utilize. As both an advertiser and a customer, I prefer relevancy over irrelevant advertisements and let's not forget that this is how these companies provide a free service to you.
Advertising and Marketing Strategy
There are plenty of strategies you could consider, my recommendation is to get involved, don't be scared! Set up a profile with as many social networking, bookmarking sites as you can manage without it being a massive time burden. Build trust and provide quality content to your fans and visitors you will then notice the fan base growing over time and naturally the conversions increasing. To increase growth you may want to look at advertising on these sites. This is a big area of study, and a first campaign is always touch and go. Investing small and making amendments that increase conversion is what I did initially. It took some time but there were no guides or articles when I started.
Never before have we been able to indirectly get access to this sort of refined data to attract customers in the right target market without incurring huge costs, search engines such as Google amongst others have historically tracked our browsing habits and used this to target advertising, once the big players couple search engine with social media we will have a more effective tool to market our customers, providing them with the most relevant advertisement possible.

Starting a new business is seriously hard work, all the courses available won't have you prepared for some of the situations you will experience when you begin trading, and the first few years are equally as challenging. Advertising and Marketing can help you to get and retain customers. Establishing a brand for yourself is an essential step in the setup of a small business and increasingly important. With the popularity of social platforms such as Facebook and Twitter we have the ability to market our small businesses to a wide audience, attracting and converting visitors into loyal customers.
